While we are waiting on the outcome of the election, remember that God knows! No, He really does! As a matter of fact, He knew before the first vote was cast. What the Bible says has not and will not change. How I put it to use possibly could change, but history and current world circumstances prove that disciples are followers, no matter what the terrain, because Who we are following has not and will not change.
No matter how they arrive at the vote total, God will not change. My calling has not changed. My responsibility has not changed. God’s invitation to be led by His Spirit is still the unshakeable lifeline it has always been. I’m still needed to be able and available, possibly more so. The same problems and challenges are still there in my life, and they will not go away no matter which candidate prevails or how or who or what procedure is used to determine that.
Does it matter who wins? Yes, for sure. Could the election affect the way we do church? I think so. Is the election a big deal with long-term effects? Without a doubt. For those who pietistically suggest otherwise, they’re fooling themselves.
Here is clear direction from God: When the early Church was living in politically challenging times, Peter wrote this in reference to their salvation, “In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials.” (1 Peter 1:6) Our response is in 1 Peter 1:13, "Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” The KJV says, "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
I want to encourage you to read 1 Peter 1:13 like it was written to you today, because it was. Look at some of the words and phrases: “Prepare for action…fix completely…revelation of Jesus Christ.” That has not changed and won’t. He is the Master, and we are the follower. So follow with your whole heart today.
