God Is Fighting For Us

GOD IS FIGHTING FOR US

As someone who has an innate interest in government and politics and has always loved our godly heritage as a nation, watching the events of the past four years has been an educational and emotional process.

I, like many of you, have very much appreciated the policies that Donald Trump brought to our nation--whether it was his championing religious freedom, standing with Israel, fighting for the unborn, or many other things. I was strongly encouraged to see these things taking a prominent place. Before the 2016 election, my interest in politics had waned because, frankly, I felt somewhat of a sense of hopelessness in regard to our nation returning to righteousness.

During the early part of 2016, I felt as though God shared with me that He was “unsheathing His sword” against unrighteousness, to fight on our behalf. There are several instances in the Bible where God says He is doing so against His enemies. As I saw the chaos continually swirling around us in our nation, I still believed (and yet believe) that God was at work fighting for us!

Now we find ourselves in a position none of us hoped for or even expected, with an administration that appears to support almost everything that God has been fighting against. What are we to do?

I have been reading Psalm 71 a great deal lately; my bookmark remains in that spot. “For You are my hope; O Lord God, You are my confidence from my youth” (verse 5). “But as for me, I will hope continually” (verse 14). And “I still declare Your wondrous deeds. And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation and Your power to all who are to come” (verse 18).

This is where I find myself. This is where I position myself. This is where I will serve from and fight from and love from. I choose to believe God is still fighting for His purposes to come to this earth, including America. I choose to believe that I am part of that purpose and plan, and I will believe for His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in Heaven every day of my life. I will learn to love better, forgive better, and believe better—for that’s what a member of God’s fighting force does! Let’s refuse to be discouraged and, as Pastor Ron Johnson always encourages, “Love fearlessly!” We will win.
